Debut: A successful lawyer's hallucinations may be linked to a medical condition or the chance that he's a prophet. In the opener, Eli's visions of singer George Michael coincide with a dire diagnosis by his neurologist brother, all while Eli puts his job and relationship with his boss's daughter in jeopardy by switching sides on a big case.

"Freedom"

After two weeks without visions, Eli is reluctant to take the case of a Mexican couple, who are suing a produce conglomerate for their use of pesticides. But he changes his mind after another round of hallucinations.

Eli has visions of World War II before taking on a National Guard soldier's custody battle with her husband, who is represented by Eli's fiancée, Taylor. Meanwhile, Eli asks Nathan for help with his medical records when his boss demands an update on his condition.

As Eli struggles to come to terms with the end of his engagement to Taylor, his visions convince him to help a former coma patient who wants to get his life back. Meanwhile, Jordan defends an old friend in a discrimination suit.

Eli gets an opportunity to make wrong things right when he revisits an old case that he unscrupulously won for an automaker, but his efforts could be undone by a series of courtroom hallucinations. Meanwhile, Jordan welcomes two new lawyers to the firm: his daughter Taylor and a former adversary, Keith Bennett.

"Something to Save"

Eli needs Jordan's help when he is in danger of being disbarred after an embarrassing courtroom episode puts his ability to practice under scrutiny. However, Eli's fate may ultimately rest with Nathan's testimony about his brother's condition.

As a result of his recently reduced stature at the firm, Eli is in the unfamiliar position of playing second fiddle to Maggie in a malpractice suit against a doctor who used to work at Nathan's hospital. Meanwhile, Taylor thinks she can reconcile with Eli through an actual performance by singer George Michael.

Eli's defense of a real-estate mogul takes an interesting turn when his client's desire to evict residents from a neighborhood---where he wants to build a shopping mall---may be the only way to save them from the earthquake that Eli has foreseen.

Eli's occasional muse, George Michael, seeks his counsel on behalf of a teenage girl who was kicked out of school for playing a suggestively titled song by the singer during an abstinence-education assembly. Meanwhile, Eli prepares for his first date since the end of his engagement, and Taylor and Matt work together on a judge's lawsuit.

While defending Nathan in a medical-malpractice suit, Eli is transported back in time to the day their father (Tom Cavanagh) died. Meanwhile, Taylor takes on an extraordinary divorce case involving cheating spouses, and Eli finds out the truth about Matt and his ex-fiancée.

In the first-season finale, Eli has surgery to remove his brain aneurysm, but when the procedure causes complications, Nathan is left with a difficult decision about his brother's future. Meanwhile, Dr. Chen finally figures out his connection to Eli.
